Ch 1.
Once Upon a Time there was a Porcupine named Alfredo. Alfredo lived with his mom and dad in a healthy forest along the Appalachian Trail. Alfredo loved his home very much, every morning he thanked his mother and father for choosing to bring him up in a such a beautiful area, told them what wonderful parents they were, and how much he appreciated the perfect happy little life he led! One particular morning Alfredo woke up as usual and went down stairs for breakfast. He said "Good morning mother, good morning father! Isn't it a beautiful morning? Thank you so much for chooseing to live here, you two are the best parents any child could ever wish for, and you've provided me with the happiest little life!" and as usual his parents replied " It's the best morning ever Alfredo, even better than last morning which was an exceptionally great morning. And we are so happy you enjoy our home so much we only want what is best for our darling little Alfredo!"
Following his everyday routine, Alfredo cleaned his dish from breakfast, kissed his mother on the cheek and patted his father on the back, and met up with Sally Hamster as they blissfully walk to school together. Every day Alfredo and Sally follow the same 10 minute Very Happy Path to Critter School, and everyday they arrive 5 minutes early, and everyday thier teacher welcomes them with a comforting smile, and the rest of the day is just as happy and perfect as every other aspect of Alredo's life. But today, today something completly unusual happened to Alfredo, today Momma Duck was walking her 68 children across the path to the near by pond, Alfredo (not wanted to bother Mamma duck, and too short to step over all the ducklings) suggested to Sally they take the Happy Path. Sally a little nervous about such a drastic unhappy change, in her other what equally as happy life, was shy to the idea at first, but after thinking about Mamma duck felt it was best.
Now both Sally and Alfredo had lived in the Forest their whole lives, but neither had ever dared to take the happy path to school before and didn't quite know what to expect, as they walked to school they noticed all sorts of erie differences. "How odd ?" Sally proclaimed. " The Very Happy Path has a flower patch in the same spot but it has 7 more flowers in it than this one" "And look!" excalimed Alfredo, " the birds only whistle one tune on this path, as apposed to several in harmony" Meanwhile, at school, their teacher Madame Badger realized soemthing must have gone wrong since the two weren't on sechdule like usual, thinking optimistically as she usually does, she knew nothing could have happened to the children, so she simply suspected they were doing a random act of kindness which made them so late. To reward them for their help she baked them homeade chocolate chip cookies. Sally and Alfredo travelled the smell all the way to their critter class.
